Alan Hutton has taken a significant pay-cut to stay at Aston Villa next season.

A report in the Telegraph has confirmed that Hutton has taken a pay-cut, estimated to be £15k a week, to remain at Villa Park next season.

It was announced yesterday that Hutton would be remaining at Villa Park for the 2018/19 campaign, after agreeing a one-year contract extension with Villa.

The 33-year-old had been attracting interest from Nottingham Forest, but he has snubbed that interest and committed to Steve Bruce and Villa, who are preparing for a third year in the Sky Bet Championship having missed out on promotion last season.

Hutton featured on 33 occasions last season, making 32 of those appearances in the Championship and helping Villa to fourth.

The Scottish full-back was influential in helping Bruce’s side reach the play-off final, which they lost 1-0 to Fulham.

Despite fear that Villa would lose Hutton, amongst a number of other stars including John Terry, the defender has taken a financial hit to commit his future to Villa for at least another season.

The Verdict

It’s been such a tough start to the summer for Villa, who were boosted by the news that Hutton had signed a contract extension.

Further details confirming that Hutton has taken a pay-cut is even more encouraging, with the defender’s reputation amongst Villa’s supporters continuing to grow.

It might still be a difficult summer for Villa, but the news on Hutton is certainly a boost.
