Sheffield United are chasing four key deals this summer, as Chris Wilder’s planning for the 2018/19 campaign begins.

A report in the Sheffield Star has revealed where Wilder is looking to strengthen this summer, with two new forwards on Sheffield United’s radar ahead of next season.

Last season, Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke formed one of the Sky Bet Championship’s most prolific attacks, with that duo spearheading the Blades’ play-off push.

A combined total of 32 Championship goals helped lead Wilder’s side to 10th.

Alongside two new attacking options, Wilder is also looking to add a new centre-back to his squad ahead of the new season.

A goalkeeper is also on Wilder’s radar, with Jamal Blackman an option.

Blackman spent last season on-loan at Bramall Lane from Chelsea, with the goalkeeper impressing during his year in South Yorkshire.

The 24-year-old made 33 appearances during the 2017/18 campaign, with 31 of those coming in the Championship, as Wilder preferred the loanee in goal.

Blackman kept nine clean sheets and conceded just 34 goals in his 31 Championship appearances.

The Verdict

It has to be quality over quantity at Bramall Lane this summer, as Wilder looks to improve his squad.

Sharp and Clarke were impressive last season, but the duo are the wrong side of 30 and Wilder will want to add a younger option to his strikeforce.

A centre-back is vital to add depth at Bramall Lane, particularly with Wilder’s preferred 3-5-2 formation.

Bringing Blackman back on board could also be a shrewd move. The goalkeeper impressed last season and knows how Wilder works.

His return would be welcome.
