Sky Bet Championship side West Bromwich Albion would be keen to sign striker Dwight Gayle on a permanent basis, but only if they win promotion to the Premier League this season, according to reports from the Birmingham Mail.

The 28-year-old moved to The Hawthorns as part of a season-long loan swap deal in the summer, with Venezuelan forward Salomon Rondon making the switch to St. James' Park in exchange.

Gayle has been a revelation at West Brom ever since his summer move - the forward has netted 16 goals in 29 games this season, and has emerged as one of the most prolific strikers in the league.

According to reports from the Birmingham Mail, Albion will look to sign Gayle on a permanent deal in the summer, only if the club secure promotion to the Premier League this season.

Gayle is likely to want to challenge himself in the top-flight after impressing for Newcastle and West Brom in two of the last three seasons.

Darren Moore's men have been in and around the promotion mixer for the majority of the campaign, but the Baggies currently sit seven points off the automatic promotion places after a 4-0 defeat to Leeds United on Friday night.

The Verdict

This could be a big blow for West Brom, as promotion to the Premier League isn't yet guaranteed.

Of course, there is still a chance that the club can still sign Gayle next season perhaps on a loan deal, but the club would surely want to have him on their books for good.

Salomon Rondon is likely to want to stay at Newcastle having scored so many goals this season, so it is bound to be an interesting summer for the two parties.
