Sunderland could look to add another defender in the final days of the transfer window as fears over Arbenit Xhemajli's injury swirl, as per the Northern Echo.

The Black Cats have had a fairly decent start to proceedings so far in Sky Bet League One this season and will be looking to continue that next weekend when they resume after the international break against Swindon Town.

In the meantime, though, they could well be busy in the days ahead as they look at ways to finish off their squad.

Xhemajli has only just joined the club and has been injured on international duty with the report revealing that the Black Cats fear that he could be out for longer than a month.

And, with just over two months until the next window opens, Sunderland may look to get a new defender in to try and cover things.

The Verdict

This would make sense if Sunderland did sign a new defender.

Of course, they'll want to learn the full extent of the injury but it sounds as though there is potential for him to be missing a fair chunk of the coming portion of the season.

In a congested year, it would be a wise move to get in a new arrival if they can.
