Reading FC confirmed their status as a Championship club for next season at the weekend, in a remarkable turnaround under Jose Gomes.

But worrying news emerged on Wednesday morning, with the Daily Mail's Matt Barlow revealing that the Reading squad haven't been paid their wages for April

Barlow also revealed that Reading have blamed the delay on an administrative glitch due to the Bank Holiday in Hong Kong and have promised the wages will be paid in the next day.

This will certainly be a worrying update for Reading supporters, many of whom would have thought that the good times were well and truly back at the Madejski Stadium under Jose Gomes.

They won't be wanting to follow in the footsteps of Bolton Wanderers, who have had a number of off-the-field problems which have played their part in the club's relegation this season.

It will be interesting to see what developments will emerge after this latest story, but Jose Gomes will be hoping that this issue can be resolved at the earliest of opportunities.

Reading are next in action when they host Birmingham City in the final game of their Championship season, where they'll be hoping to finish their league campaign with a win to send supporters home pleased.

The Verdict:

Hopefully this is just an administrative error.

You only have to look a couple of places down the Championship table to see what a mess Bolton are currently in, and this is a worrying update for Reading supporters.

The sooner this is sorted, the better.
