Barnsley boss, Daniel Stendel is reluctant to sign a new deal with the club, amid interest from Middlesbrough according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The report claims that Barnsley have spoken to Stendel about extending his current deal with the club, although he is reluctant to enter talks until he receives assurances that he can strengthen the squad over the summer.

It is also claimed that sources close to Stendel say that the Barnsley boss doesn't want to sign a new deal at this moment in time.

Stendel has emerged as one of the potential managers to take charge at Middlesbrough ahead of next season, and this latest update could be of interest to the Boro supporters.

His representatives insist that he is fully focused on the task at hand with Barnsley, as they continue their preparations ahead of next year's campaign.

Stendel guided Barnsley to promotion from League One last season as they returned to the Championship at the first time of asking.

But his future seemingly depends on whether he is given assurances on whether the board will back him financially to strengthen his squad.

It's not likely to be the last we've hear of Stendel's future at Barnsley, as he's a manager who seems as though he's in-demand heading into the summer.

The Verdict:

I'd be seriously concerned by this update if I was a Barnsley supporter.

Stendel has really impressed me as they won promotion to the Championship, and he's evidently a manager with a bright future ahead of him.

They need to be doing everything they can to keep him at the club heading into next season.
