The uncertainty surrounding whether the United Kingdom will leave the European Union has cast doubt over the potential investment talks at Leeds United.

It has been made no secret whatsoever that Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani is open to the idea of outside investment to help Leeds get to where they want to be.

Just over a month ago, Radrizzani spoke to the Times about how there are a whole host of suitors very interested in investing in the club, none other than QSI, the mega-rich owners of Paris Saint-Germain.

Radrizzani has since moved to quash the discussion that a takeover was imminent:

However, this response did little to quell the speculation surrounding potential investment, with Radrizzani spotted watching PSG’s recent 1-0 victory over Club Brugge in the Champions League, fuelling the gossip further.

There has been more complication thrown into the mix recently, with the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Brexit and whether the UK will leave the European Union, and if so, what type of deal they will strike.

While it is reported that the two parties have held ‘positive talks’ recently, according to ESPN, there appear to be issues surrounding the lack of a decision being made on Brexit, along with the difficulties facing beIN Sport and Qatari diplomacy.

The issue with Brexit (or lack thereof) is that a decision has been delayed until at least the beginning of January making trade between the two parties much more difficult to navigate, and would make the investment much more ideal to take place if Leeds were to achieve promotion rather than to help them there.

The Verdict

This whole situation already appeared to be complicated enough without further news delays and obstacles in QSI’s way.

Investment of this magnitude would never be an overnight deal, so it is no surprise to see the talks taking months, but it is far from ideal to have to negotiate with the flurry of other factors constantly interfering.

Leeds’ on-pitch battles will remain the ultimate focus for Andrea Radrizzani this season as he hopes his club can finally achieve promotion after 15 years.
