Derby County are looking to sign at least three players in the January transfer window, according to a report from the Derby Telegraph.

It is understood that one of the key areas that the Rams are looking to address is the right-back position.

However, despite being linked with Darnell Fisher and Curtis Nelson in recent months, Derby will not be signing these two players as Paul Warne has ruled out moves.

Warne will be keen to stamp his own authority on Derby's squad in January as he aims to guide the club back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

With the Rams still operating under a business plan that was agreed with the Football League, they will be reliant on loans or free transfers in the New Year as they are not able to pay transfer fees.

Derby have shown some signs of promise in the third-tier with Warne at the helm and within striking distance of the play-off places.

Currently on a five-game unbeaten run at this level, Derby will be determined to send out a signal of intent to the rest of the division by defeating fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday at Pride Park on Saturday.

Warne's side know that they need to be firing on all cylinders in this fixture as the Owls have won each of their last three league games and currently possess the second best away record.

The Verdict

When you consider that Derby only have one out-and-out right-back at their disposal (Kwaku Oduroh), it wouldn't be at all surprising if they sign an individual who is capable of playing in this position when the window opens.

Providing that Warne is able to nail his recruitment in January, he will unquestionably fancy his chances of overseeing a push for promotion.

During his time in charge of Rotherham United, Warne led the club to promotion from this division on three separate occasions.

By utilising his previous experiences to his advantage, there is every chance that the 49-year-old will go on to achieve a great deal of success at Pride Park.
