Hull City could potentially resurrect their interest in Sheffield United midfielder Regan Slater during the January transfer window, according to a report from The Sheffield Star.

The Blades were seemingly willing to sanction Slater's departure last month but a temporary move to the Tigers collapsed after the 22-year-old suffered an injury.

United then opted to switch their attention to incomings as they sealed late moves for Robin Olsen, Conor Hourihane and Morgan Gibbs-White.

Yet to feature for the Blades this season, Slater was loaned out by United to Hull during the previous campaign.

The midfielder went on to make 34 appearances for the club in all competitions as they sealed a return to the Championship.

With the Blades set to face Hull this weekend, an update has emerged regarding Grant McCann's side's stance on a future move for Slater.

As per The Sheffield Star, it is understood that it would be a major shock if the Tigers opt against submitting an offer for the midfielder as McCann is believed to be a fan of Slater.

Whether the Blades will be open to the possibility of waving goodbye to one of their academy graduates next year remains to be seen.

The Verdict

When you consider that Slater is currently below the likes of John Fleck, Sander Berge, Hourihane and Oliver Norwood in the pecking order, it could be argued that he may need to leave Bramall Lane in order to prevent his career from stalling.

Currently being forced to watch on from the sidelines, the midfielder may be tempted to move back to Hull as he featured regularly for McCann's side last season.

Unless Jokanovic is willing to give Slater the opportunity to prove himself in the coming months, he ought to consider selling him in January as his contract is set to expire next summer.

Providing that United are able to deliver the goods on a consistent basis in the Championship, they may not necessarily miss Slater if he does indeed decide to move on to pastures new.
