West Bromwich Albion are likely to target a left-sided centre-back in January as well as a box-to-box midfielder, with Darren Moore’s transfer planning already underway at the Hawthorns.

Moore, alongside Luke Dowling and Ian Pearce, will be involved in the recruitment process, with the duo tasked with taking the pressure off Moore ahead of the winter window.

According to the Birmingham Mail, a left-sided centre-back is likely to be on Moore’s radar, with Kyle Bartley struggling on the left side of West Brom’s back-three.

The summer signing, 27, has made 15 appearances so far this season, but West Brom have struggled defensively, conceding 24 goals, which is more than any of their promotion rivals.

A midfielder is also likely to be on the radar, with Moore already using five different bodies in a central area this season.

Chris Brunt, Gareth Barry and James Morison have competed to partner Jake Livermore, whilst Sam Field has also been used.

Despite boasting a host of talent, West Brom are currently sitting outside the play-off places.

The Baggies haven’t won in four and take on Leeds United at the Hawthorns next weekend.

The Verdict

West Brom’s defensive performances this season have been poor, so it is very little surprise to learn a centre-back will be on the radar.

Midfield is another area for concern, with the players in that position ageing now.

A younger option, entering his prime, should be on Moore’s wish-list.
