Barnsley's Adam Jackson is closing in on an Oakwell exit, with the Scottish Sun claiming he could be moving north of the border to join Hibernian.

The 24-year-old has been spotted at Easter Road after struggling for game time under Daniel Stendel. The link is strengthened by the fact current Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom signed Jackson when he was manager of the Tykes.

The former Hartlepool man has made just three appearances in 2019, the last of which came against Shrewsbury in April.

He out of contract in the summer, although no news has been released yet as to whether he'll get a new deal.

Jackson began his career at Middlesbrough and enjoyed a couple of loan spells before making his move to Oakwell in 2016. The former England youth defender has since started 36 matches for the Tykes, but has failed to establish himself as a first team regular.

Paul Heckingbottom took charge at Easter Road earlier in the season and guided them to a fifth placed finish in the SPFL.

The Verdict

This wouldn't be a surprising move. Jackson hasn't got matches at Barnsley and although he was trusted in the absence of Liam Lindsay in April, it's likely he could be tempted away.

Given the links with the current Hibs boss, it would appear to be a good move all round, freeing up space in the Tykes squad but affording Jackson a fresh start.
