Kiko Casilla is earning more than £30k-a-week at Leeds United following his move to Elland Road from Real Madrid.

Leeds moved to sign Casilla back in the January transfer window, with the goalkeeper arriving at Elland Road on a free transfer from Los Blancos.

The Spaniard quickly replaced Bailey Peacock-Farrell as Marcelo Bielsa’s first choice at Elland Road, but was unable to keep Leeds on track for automatic promotion in the Championship.

He was at fault for Jack Marriott’s crucial, game-changing goal in Leeds’ play-off defeat to Derby, and fans are on the goalkeeper’s back as they begin to dissect the season gone by.

Now, a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post has detailed Casilla’s contract at Leeds, which runs until the summer of 2023.

The 32-year-old is picking up a wage north of the £30,000 mark every week, but the same YEP report highlights how his name now has a mark alongside it given his erratic outing in the play-offs.

Since arriving in Leeds, Casilla has made 19 appearances and conceded 22 goals, including seven in his last three appearances.

The former Real Madrid stopper has also managed six clean sheets.

The Verdict

Given where Casilla came from his wages aren’t a massive surprise.

It probably means he is one of the top earners at Elland Road, but again, having come from Madrid, you’d expect that.

However, some of his performances are a concern, and when you’re paying someone that much money, you can’t afford to be gifting goals like Casilla does.
