Wolverhampton Wanderers could shelve plans to sign a striker this month if Rafa Mir impresses at Molineux in the coming weeks, reports the Express and Star.

Nuno Espirito Santo has plans to add another striker to his squad this month, but latest developments have suggested that Wolves could abandon those plans if Mir makes a positive impact following his signing.

Wolves moved to sign Mir from Valencia last week, with the Sky Bet Championship outfit paying a reported £1.5m to secure the striker’s service on a four-and-a-half year deal.

Mir made his debut in the FA Cup last weekend against Swansea City, featuring for the final stages, having replaced Leo Bonatini in the 77th minute.

Bonatini and Bright Enobakhare are Wolves’ other striking options at this current time, with the former in fine form already this season, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further six for Nuno’s side, who hold a 12-point lead in the Championship’s race for promotion.

Bonatini and Mir are likely to be challenging for a starting berth this weekend, as Wolves look to extend their lead in the Championship when they travel to Oakwell to face Barnsley.

The Verdict

Mir has a huge opportunity at Molineux, and the striker is sure to be presented with plenty of goalscoring opportunities with Wolves one of the division’s most creative sides.

Competing with Bonatini at Molineux, Wolves now have two capable striking options and Nuno will hope he doesn’t have to turn to the transfer window to strengthen further this month.
