Former QPR assistant manager Marc Bircham remains a contender to take over as the club's manager, although he also has another offer from elsewhere, it has been reported.

Bircham, who played for Rangers for five years between 2002 and 2007, has had two coaching spells at the club. The first of those ran from 2009 until 2014, and in November 2016 he returned to the club as Ian Holloway's assistant, a post he remained in until Holloway left the club a year and a half later in May 2018, with Bircham also departing the following month.

According to TalkSport, Bircham is considered to be a genuine contender for the job after an "impressive" interview, with the former midfielder reportedly holding out an "enticing" offer from elsewhere because he is "desperate" to return to Loftus Road.

Bircham has also had spells as an assistant manager in the USA at both Chicago Fire and Arizona United.

Other than Bircham, Tim Sherwood and current Charlton manager Lee Bowyer are among those said to be being considered to take over from Steve McLaren, who was sacked as Rangers boss at the start of April following a run of just one win in 15 games.

The Verdict

This is a difficult situation for both parties to be in.

QPR want to get the right man but won't want to rush into that decision, while Bircham may well be aware that this reported other offer will only be available to him for so long.

One way or another, with this season drawing to a close and preparation for the next one already beginning in earnest, QPR need to act fast to avoid being left behind by the rest of the division.
