Barnsley head coach Daniel Stendel will leave the club before their next game, according to Sky Sports.

Stendel took charge at Barnsley at the beginning of last season and was able to guide the club to automatic promotion from League One last term, as they finished second behind Luton Town.

However, Barnsley have made a poor start to the new season and are without a victory since their 1-0 win over Fulham on the opening day of the season.

The Tykes are without a win in their last eleven matches in all competitions and fell into the Championship relegation zone at the weekend after being thumped 5-1 by Preston North End.

If Stendel was to leave the club, Barnsley would have just under two weeks to appoint a new manager before their next game against high-flying Swansea City after the international break.

The Verdict

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Stendel is a good manager and he did a great job with Barnsley last season, but at the end of the day the results so far this season have simply not been good enough.

Barnsley showed great fight to come from behind to draw with Derby last week but they were poor against Preston at the weekend.

Maybe Stendel feels that he's taken the club as far as he can and that it's time for somebody else to take over and help the team get their season back on track.

I think it would be a blow for the club to lose him, but if he does resign at least the club would have enough time to appoint a replacement for him.
