Goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin has signed for Championship side Watford for the second time, after being released by the club two years ago, reports the Watford official site.

Rene Gilmartin- First Watford Spell
Gilmartin has signed for the Hornets again.

The 27-year-old has today agreed a one-year deal to return to Vicarage Road, as the Hornets look for back up to Heurelho Gomes whilst their current Watford back up and England Under 21's keeper Jonathan Bond looks set for a loan move.

Gilmartin was back up to the first team keeper at Irish side St Patrick's Athletic last season, but only made one appearance, whilst keeping a clean sheet.

Plymouth Argyle used the keeper's services in the 2012-13 season, as he made fifteen appearances, but left the club by mutual consent at the end of the season.

During Gilmartin's first spell with the Hornets, he made two appearances when signed in 2010 from Walsall on a free transfer, but spent time out on loan to Crawley Town and Yeovil Town in 2012.

Walsall gave the Dublin born keeper a pro contract in 2005, and made thirty-five first team appearances during his five years with the Saddlers, and was a teammate to current Watford captain Troy Deeney who was also playing for Walsall at the time until he also made a switch to the Hornets in 2010, in the same transfer window.

Watford are still yet announce a squad number for the new keeper, but he looks to remain third choice currently, until a loan offer for young keeper Bond comes in.

However, it's possible that this may not be a backup option for Gomes and a replacement to Bond, as last season's third choice keeper Gary Woods left the club in the summer to join League One side Leyton Orient, and this signing could be the filler to that gap in Sannino's side.
