Wolverhampton Wanderers are flying-high at the top of the Championship table, and could go seven points clear of second-place Cardiff City with a win over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday evening.

Nuno Santo’s side's trip to Hillsborough will be no walk in the park despite Carlos Carvalhal’s men's abysmal run of form, which has seen them go five games without a win.

The Owls are smarting, and will look to bounce back against the league leaders, with a win set to be a statement to the rest of the division that Wednesday are not dead and buried just yet.

However the stats do not bode well for the home side, with Goodbrand Stats revealing on Twitter that Wolves have lost just one of their last sixteen visits to Hillsborough in a period spanning an incredible 53 years.

Wednesday fans will be concerned, but Santo will take nothing for granted as he looks to continue his side’s title surge.

The Verdict

The stats are ominous for Carlos Carvalhal, who will know that another defeat could actually cost him his job.

Wednesday need to start picking up points if they are to be considered viable promotion candidates, but defeat could see the Owls fall a massive thirteen points from the playoffs if results go against them this weekend.

Three points for Wolves would tighten their grip on an automatic promotion spot, and Santo’s side must keep winning to keep Cardiff City at bay.

It could be a tight affair at Hillsborough with both sides keen to avoid defeat, but Wolves should have the quality to pull through.
