Sheffield Wednesday have opened talks over a new contract for Osaze Urhoghide, according to the Sheffield Star.

The 20-year-old has been one of the breakthrough stars in a disappointing season for the Owls after making eight appearances for the first team this term.

Like many others, Urhoghide is out of contract at the end of the season and so faces an uncertain future at Hillsborough, but according to a report by reporter Joe Crann, the club are moving to secure his services.

Writing for Sheffield Star, Crann wrote: "The Star understands, however, that talks are very much underway with regards to a new deal for the Dutch-born centre back, with the Owls having offered him a new contract in an attempt to make sure that he’s still playing in blue and white next season.

"As things stand nothing has been agreed, but it is thought that he is fully focused on the club and their current predicament rather than worrying about what lies ahead when the season ends, despite growing interest from elsewhere in the UK as well as abroad.
"The general understanding is that some players have been wary of penning new deals given the uncertainty that lies ahead, but the appointment of a man like Darren Moore will certainly have gone some way to placate any fears that several may have had.
"With Urhoghide, it remains to be seen exactly what lies ahead, but with a focus on regular gametime – something he’s now getting at Hillsborough – then a new deal may well be on the horizon."

The verdict This is an encouraging update for Sheffield Wednesday fans. The Owls may be facing an uncertain future but what they do know is that they need to be keeping hold of their best young players. Osaze Urhoghide certainly fits into that category and so it'll be a big boost if he agrees a new deal.
