Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has undoubtedly been one of the Whites' standout performers from the current season and is surely destined to play at the highest level.

He has played 40 times in the league, becoming one of Marcelo Bielsa's most important players, and it is no coincidence that out of the four games he has missed, Leeds have lost three of them.

So it came as a bit of a surprise when the PFA's Team of the Year was announced, the one voted for by the players, that Phillips was nowhere to be seen.

Instead, the midfield trio chosen were his teammate Pablo Hernandez, Aston Villa's Jack Grealish and Sheffield United's Oliver Norwood.

It is the team of the year that will of course mean more to the players than any others that are thrown about, so how will Phillips feel following this snub?

He might not be fussed but I would also not be surprised if he was rather baffled.

The season Leeds have had has been remarkable and Phillips has been a crucial part of that, playing to a consistent high level all season.

To be snubbed in favour of Jack Grealish who, despite being outstanding over the last ten games, has been fairly anonymous in the preceding months.

He must now use this as motivation to prove his fellow professionals wrong but he has every right to feel aggrieved.
