Reliable journalist Phil Hay has admitted that news about Dean Henderson moving to Leeds United has gone quiet.

Reports this morning linked Henderson with a switch to Leeds as a possible replacement for £4m Wolves target Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

But Hay has taken to Twitter to reveal that there have been no updates on this move for about a month.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist said: "As it happens, I did hear Henderson mentioned a month or so ago but nothing more has been said about it."

Henderson is a man in-demand this summer with his contract at Manchester United coming to an end.

The 21-year-old was named in the PFA League One Team of the Year for his excellent displays on loan at play-off runners-up Shrewsbury Town, where he kept 19 clean sheets.

With Peacock-Farrell linked with an exit and Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan failing to impress, Leeds could have swooped for Henderson in a cut-price deal, reportedly about £1m.

The Sun believes Fulham, Stoke City and Bristol City want the England under-21 international too while The Daily Mail has linked him with Arsenal, Chelsea, Benfica, Roma and Olympiacos.

But the same report indicated that Henderson was set to sign a new three-year deal at Man United, meaning Leeds would have to rely on a loan deal if they do reignite their interest in him.

The Verdict

With a permanent move looking unlikely now that a three-year deal at Old Trafford is on the table, it is not a surprise to see that Hay does not know much about this deal.

With more prominent targets like Angus Gunn and David Stockdale in mind, Henderson is always going to be a back-up option for Leeds this summer.

But if they do decide to snap him up - permanently or on loan - then he is definitely an upgrade on Wiedwald and Lonergan, either providing competition with Peacock-Farrell or replacing him if he leaves for Wolves.
