According to BBC Radio Humberside, Nigel Adkins is in-line to replace Leonid Slutsky as manager of Hull City, after the Russian parted company with the Sky Bet Championship club last night.

Hull have struggled on their return to the Championship under Slutsky, with the Tigers failing make any sort of impact and heading into late 2017 facing the possibility of back-to-back relegations.

Slutsky and Hull parted company late last night, with the Championship outfit now looking for a permanent replacement for the Russian.

According to David Burns, all signs are pointing towards Adkins to replace Slutsky at the KCOM Stadium, whilst Burns’ colleague at BBC Radio Humberside, Matt Dean, has confirmed that the 52-year-old has been in attendance at Hull’s recent clashes with Millwall and Ipswich Town.

Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday proved to be the final straw for Hull’s owners, who pulled the trigger on Slutsky late on Sunday afternoon, with the Tigers sat 20th in the Championship table, just three points above the bottom three having won on just four occasions this season.

Hull are not back in action until next Saturday, when the Tigers welcome Brentford to the KCOM Stadium.

The Verdict

Hull’s supporters will be uninspired by this update, with Adkins not particularly boasting a fantastic reputation since his days with Southampton.

Slutsky’s spell has been tough, and Hull needed a change heading into a key part of the season, however, there are doubts to whether the Russian’s replacement will be any bettered qualified than he was.

This is a key appointment for the Tigers, and one that could define what division they are playing their football in next season.
