Respected journalist Phil Hay has suggested rumours of Leeds United's interest in Peterborough winger Marcus Maddison are wide of the mark.

He tweeted that he is prepared to be proven wrong, but his understanding is that Leeds are not in the hunt for the former Gateshead man, a stance he believes they have taken throughout the summer.

Hay is rarely wrong when it comes to Leeds United, the Yorkshire Evening Post writer has become the 'go to' guy for events at Elland Road and if he doesn't believe it will happen, the likelihood is that it won't.

Maddison is set for a Championship move though, with Aston Villa and West Brom the latest in a long line of clubs to be linked with a move. Last week Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony said he believe the winger would be sold before tomorrow's transfer deadline.

The 24-year old scored eight goals in League One last season, taking his total to 42 in 177 competitive appearances for Posh.

The Verdict

Maddison has been linked with Leeds throughout the summer, but that is seemingly erroneous after Hay's tweet today.

There's little doubt Maddison will be moved on in the next 24 hours or so, but will that give Peterborough enough time to spend the proceeds of the deal?
