Swansea City look set to miss out on a second loan agreement for Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster.

Brewster excelled for Swansea on loan last season in the Championship, scoring 11 goals in only 22 appearances after joining them in the winter window. His form put Steve Cooper’s side into the play-offs, but they failed to win promotion.

There was hope that Brewster would return to the Championship side on loan later in the transfer window, but that’s looking unlikely now.

Quiz: Are these 10 facts about Swansea City actually true?

As per Alan Nixon, Liverpool are selling Brewster to raise funds to sign Ismaïla Sarr from Watford.

The journalist has gone on to say that he can’t see Brewster returning to Swansea now, with Liverpool wanting the cash rather than sending the 20-year-old back out on loan.

Cooper’s side enjoyed a positive start to the season over the weekend, despite heading into the campaign without Brewster.

A 53rd minute goal from Morgan Gibbs-White at Deepdale secured a 1-0 victory over Preston North End in a testing opening day fixture.

The Verdict

It was a brilliant cameo from Brewster at Swansea last season, but it’s little surprise to learn that he won’t be heading back to South Wales.

Premier League sides will have taken note of his form at Swansea and will be more than prepared to throw cash at his signature given Liverpool are open to a permanent exit.

Had it been a loan, maybe Swansea had a chance to get a deal done, but any permanent deal was set to mean it was tough for Cooper.
