According to Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United have not yet shown any interest in signing Jack Marriott from Peterborough United, contrary to reports elsewhere.

Leeds have been linked with a move for the Peterborough striker this month, which has prompted the club’s supporters to take to Twitter to ask questions to Hay, who works closely with the Elland Road club.

The YEP’s chief football writer has confirmed that Leeds have not made contact with Marriott, citing people close to the striker as the source of his information.

Marriott has been linked with a host of Championship clubs, who are looking to offer the 23-year-old the opportunity to test himself in the second-tier, after a magnificent start to the season with Peterborough.

The striker has scored 23 goals across all competitions for Posh this season, including twice in Saturday’s shock FA Cup victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Leeds are looking to strengthen their squad this month, with the YEP also providing a transfer update on the Whites’ pursuit of Laurens De Bock, with the left-back reportedly having a medical with the Championship outfit.

The Whites have already today announced the arrival of Yosuke Ideguchi from Gamba Osaka.

The Verdict

Leeds’ supporters will be disappointed to learn Marriott is not on the club’s radar, as he is exactly the type of striker needed at Elland Road this month.

If Leeds are to make a move for Marriott they need to do it sooner rather than later, as one of their Championship rivals is sure to ignite a firm interest in the 23-goal striker.
