Nottingham Forest remain in a good position to sign Sam Byram from West Ham United this summer.

According to reliable journalist, Alan Nixon, Forest and West Ham are continuing to work on a loan deal for the right-back, with a big chance that Byram will make the switch to the City Ground.

West Ham wanting to add another player to their defence is holding up a deal, but Nixon’s report suggests Byram will still make the switch to the Sky Bet Championship outfit.

Aitor Karanka is keen to take Byram on-loan next season, with the right-back not featuring in West Ham’s plans for the 2018/19 campaign.

Byram, 24, has been with the Hammers since January 2016, when he made the switch from Leeds United to East London.

However, the attack-minded right-back has found his opportunities limited with West Ham, featuring on just 36 occasions in two-and-a-half years.

Byram’s spell at Leeds was far more consistent, with the 24-year-old making 130 appearances in the Championship, featuring on both the right of defence and right of midfield.

Added to that, Byram scored nine Championship goals for the Whites.

There was some suggestion on social media yesterday that Leeds were also interested in luring the defender back to Elland Road, but today’s update suggests he is on course for a move to Forest.

The Verdict

Byram is an extremely good Championship right-back, who will improve Forest’s squad.

For Karanka, his arrival will be another coup, with this update positive for the Reds.

Karanka will want the 24-year-old on board as soon as possible, before more Championship clubs make a move.
