Talks between Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa are still progressing, as the Whites look to make a managerial appointment.

Jim White of talkSPORT and Sky Sports has provided an update on Twitter, confirming that talks between the two parties are still ongoing, as Leeds look to thrash out a deal with the ex-Argentina and Chile boss.

The journalist has highlighted that the deal between Leeds and Bielsa is a big one, which is taking time to complete.

Leeds are on the lookout for their third permanent head-coach in under 12 months, following Paul Heckingbottom’s sacking earlier this month.

Heckingbottom moved on after just 16 fixtures in charge at Elland Road.

The ex-Barnsley boss oversaw just four victories, losing eight of his 16 fixtures at the helm, as Leeds stumbled towards 13th.

Bielsa, 62, has emerged as the leading contender to take the job at Elland Road, with the Argentinian coach set to bring a wealth of experience to the Championship, should he take the job.

As well as Argentina and Chile, Bielsa has managed at Athletic Bilbao, Marseille and Lille, amongst other clubs.

The Verdict

This is a big summer for Leeds, who need to make sure that whoever is appointed is the right man to take the club forward.

Bielsa is a big name, who will take some convincing to take the step down into the Championship, which is why a deal is taking time.

The 62-year-old would bring so much to Leeds, but it’s hard to not admit that there is an element of risk to what Leeds are doing.

However, it is a major statement, which was needed after a difficult year at Elland Road.
