Leeds United have not made a move to bring John Egan to Elland Road this summer, despite showing an interest in the Brentford centre-back.

According to Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Egan is an alternative Leeds are considering to Kyle Bartley this summer, as they look to strengthen their defensive options.

However, the Whites haven’t made a move to sign the Brentford centre-back.

Leeds are looking to add a centre-back to their squad this summer, with it emerging back in April that Kyle Bartley was on their radar.

However, with little progress made, Leeds have also identified Egan as an alternative.

The 25-year-old has spent the last two years at Brentford, impressing in the Sky Bet Championship.

The centre-back has made 67 Championship appearances across two years, scoring six goals for the Bees.

Egan featured regularly last season for Dean Smith’s side, with 34 appearances across all competitions, including 33 in the Championship.

The centre-back’s form in the league helped the Bees finish the Championship season in ninth, with Smith’s side once again putting up a challenge for play-off football.

Egan came through Sunderland’s ranks, and has also enjoyed spells with the likes of Southend and Gillingham.

The Verdict

Egan would be a good alternative to Bartley, should Leeds decide to make their move for the 25-year-old.

Now Marcelo Bielsa is in the country, it is expected that Leeds’ work in the transfer window will begin, with still plenty to do at Elland Road.

Adding centre-backs to his squad needs to be a priority for Bielsa.
