Talks between Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa are ongoing, as the Whites continue to search for Paul Heckingbottom’s permanent replacement at Elland Road.

Bielsa has emerged as a leading contender for the Elland Road vacancy, with Leeds making a move for the 62-year-old, who is highly-rated in the footballing world.

Adam Pope from BBC Radio Leeds has provided an update on Leeds’ pursuit of the former Argentina and Chile boss, confirming that talks are ongoing between the two parties, but they aren’t at a contract signing stage yet.

The journalist also confirmed that Bielsa is not the only coach Leeds are considering, as they search for their third manager inside just 12 months.

Pippo Inzaghi, Venezia’s coach, has been linked, but Pope understands that the 44-year-old’s future lies elsewhere ahead of next season.

Leeds are searching for Heckingbottom’s replacement after he was dismissed last Friday.

The 40-year-old had only been in charge at Elland Road since February, but failed to impress, as Leeds stumbled to 13th in the Championship table.

Heckingbottom managed just four victories during his time with Leeds, losing eight of his 16 fixtures in charge.

The Verdict

Bielsa is clearly Leeds’ first choice, with the club looking to thrash out a deal with the 62-year-old.

It would be some coup if Leeds could get Bielsa on board ahead of next season, with the ex-Argentina boss certainly an upgrade on Heckingbottom.

However, hearing that Leeds are considering their options is understandable, and sensible, with Bielsa known for his unpredictability.
