Football journalist Alan Nixon has taken to Twitter to claim that Wycombe Wanderers have made an offer for Crewe Alexandra winger Owen Dale.
The 22-year-old attacker enjoyed another fine season at Gresty Road for his boyhood club and racked up an impressive 12 goals and two assists across all competitions.
Given the strong form that he showed throughout the campaign just gone, it is perhaps unsurprising to see the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland, Preston North End and Ipswich Town all being linked with a move for Dale this summer.
However it appears that Wycombe have stolen a surprise march on their rivals, with Nixon stating the following earlier today:
Wycombe. Surprise move for Owen Dale at Crewe. Low offer. Alex want a lot more.

What club do these 21 former Wycombe Wanderers players ply their trade at now?
The Chairboys are on the lookout for new recruits after being relegated back to Sky Bet League One following their one season stay in the Championship and appear keen to bring in the exciting winger.
Dale has spent the majority of his career at Crewe, whilst also taking in loan spells with the likes of Witton Albion and Altrincham over the years.
If Wycombe can somehow pull off a deal for Dale, it’ll be some coup by Gareth Ainsworth and co, as the player is at the top of his game.
He is easily one of the finest young attackers that is operating in the lower divisions of the EFL and he has shown that he can add that all important end product to his game.
I have seen him play on both the left and right flank for Alexandra and I really think he would add a lot to what Wycombe already have at their disposal in attack.
He won’t come cheap however and I don’t expect this to be the first bid that Crewe receive for their star man before the current transfer window is out.
This is just the beginning of what could be a long drawn out saga.
