Blackburn Rovers have the chance to sign Marcus Antonsson in the summer, with the forwardâs Leeds United career looking likely to be coming to an end this summer. Â
According to Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Antonsson, who has spent the year on-loan with Blackburn in League One, was deemed surplus to requirements by Leeds last summer.
The reliable journalist is expecting that to be the case again in the coming transfer window, whilst also admitting he was told that Blackburn have the option to sign Antonsson permanently following his loan.
The 27-year-old forward, who has a year remaining on his deal at Elland Road, has enjoyed a successful year at Ewood Park, helping Rovers to promotion in League One.
Antonsson has featured on 34 occasions across all competitions for Tony Mowbrayâs side, scoring eight goals, including seven in the league.
The Swede will return to Elland Road in the summer, but a chance to build on his 21 Leeds appearances is looking unlikely.
Last season, under Garry Monk, Antonsson scored three goals in 21 appearances, but found the back of the net just once in the Sky Bet Championship.
The Verdict Â
Hayâs updates are usually reliable on Leeds, with it looking likely that Antonsson mightâve played his last game for the Whites.
The 27-year-oldâs time at Elland Road has been disappointing, with the forward struggling to build on a strong start under Monk.
With two years in English football now under his belt, it will be interesting to see if Blackburn take another chance on Antonsson ahead of their Championship return.
The forward could be useful to Mowbray back in the second-tier.
