Leeds United are still interested in Preston‘s Jordan Hugill but don’t want to pay the £8m that their Championship rivals are demanding for the striker.

The Whites have been on the lookout for a new number nine in the January window and despite links to several players, no striker has arrived at Elland Road yet.

And, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay has revealed that the stumbling block to a potential move for Hugill is the fee North End want for the striker.

Hay revealed to his twitter followers that they are interested in bringing the player from Deepdale but won’t go to £8m.

The powerful forward has scored eight goals in the league this season which follows on from the 12 he hit in the last campaign. As well as goals, Hugill has a real presence up top and can hold the ball up well.

Despite a brace against Millwall last time out, Pierre-Michel Lasogga has been hit and miss for Leeds and many supporters had expected the club to reinvest some of the £15m they received for Chris Wood in the summer on a new striker this month.

The Verdict

Leeds clearly have a valuation of a player and don’t budge, however, in today’s market is £8m for Jordan Hugill too much?

It might be slightly overpriced, but football is rapidly changing and a striker who can score goals and also does a lot for the team is going to require that sort of fee from a Championship club who don’t need to sell.

It could be the difference between making the top six, so some Leeds fans may want to see the club take a risk in the market, but the latest from Hay suggests it’s not going to happen.
