Leeds United will not meet Abel Hernandez’s wage demands this summer, with the striker continuing his search for a new club.

Hernandez is a free agent this summer following his release from Hull City, with Leeds one club credited with an interest in him some time ago.

A move has never materialised, with Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post confirming that Leeds have moved onto other targets and are not willing to meet the striker’s wage demands.

However, the reliable journalist stated that Hernandez is still yet to find another club and does want to stay in England, so his wage demands might yet change later in the summer.

The striker spent the last four years at Hull, playing two years in the Premier League and the other two in the Sky Bet Championship.

During his time at the KCOM Stadium, the 27-year-old Uruguayan scored 39 goals across all competitions, proving to be particularly prolific in the Championship.

Last season, injuries limited the striker to just 10 appearances for the Tigers in the Championship, however, that run of appearances brought an impressive return of eight goals.

The Verdict

Whilst Leeds will not pay Hernandez what he wants, the door does still seem open on this possible deal.

Hernandez could easily change his wage demands, which could let Leeds resurrect their pursuit to bring him to Elland Road.

Of course, the club have other targets, but if the possibility of signing Hernandez came back up, Leeds could well revisit that.
