Yorkshire Evening Post journalist, Phil Hay, has ruled Leeds United out of a move for Keiren Westwood.

Hay responded to a fan's question about Leeds' interest in the Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper after a recent injury crisis at Elland Road has left Marcelo Bielsa short of options in goal.

Jamal Blackman has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a fractured leg, whilst Bailey Peacock-Farrell was also suffering from an injury picked up last month.

Peacock-Farrell has since returned to the squad and has improved on some disappointing displays in goal for Bielsa's side, who are serious contenders from promotion this season.

It had previously been reported by the Mirror's print edition that Leeds were eyeing a move for Westwood, who is yet to feature for Sheffield Wednesday this season, much to the surprise of the Owls supporters.

The Irishman did make his first appearance of the season for the Sheffield Wednesday under 23s side against Crewe Alexandra earlier this week, and he will be keen to resolve his long-term future as quickly as possible.

The Verdict

It certainly surprises me.

Westwood would have been the ideal man to push Peacock-Farrell for a starting spot at Leeds and I'm stunned to hear that they won't be pursuing a deal for the 34-year-old.

He has the experience and quality to be playing regularly in the Championship, and he could have played a crucial role in Leeds' promotion push this season.

If a fellow promotion rival snaps him up, then he could be the difference in gaining promotion, or staying in the Championship.
