Reliable journalist offers positive Leeds United transfer update

It is looking likely that Leeds United will complete a deal to sign Jamal Blackman from Chelsea this summer.

According to Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post, a deal to bring Blackman to Elland Road isn’t far away, with Leeds looking to bring an end to their search for a new goalkeeper.

After sanctioning the departures of Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan, Leeds are left with just Bailey Peacock-Farrell on their books as pre-season ticks into a third week.

Blackman now looks like the goalkeeper that will arrive at Elland Road, with the 24-year-old set for a second successive spell in the Championship.

Last season, Blackman spent the year with Sheffield United, making 33 appearances across all competitions.

Elsewhere, Leeds are also looking to strengthen other areas of their squad, with Hay updating supporters that deals are being worked on in the background at Elland Road.

A deal for Matej Vydra is looking increasingly unlikely, however, with reports earlier in the week confirming that Leeds were cooling their interest in the prolific 26-year-old.

Leeds are looking at alternative forwards to Vydra, who scored 22 goals for Derby County last season.

The Verdict

It’s been a tough start to the summer for Leeds, but this is a positive update.

The club are working on deals, and learning that they are close to finalising a deal for Blackman will encourage supporters.

There will be hope amongst Leeds’ fanbase that deals start to fall into place.
