Sunderland are still interested in Hibs midfielder Dylan McGeouch who is attracting interest from many clubs in both England and Scotland.

The former Celtic player has had a great spell in Edinburgh, becoming a key part of Neil Lennon's team whilst he was also key to the famous Scottish Cup win a few years ago.

However, he is out of contract at Easter Road and is interesting several sides - including Sunderland.

And, journalist Alan Nixon revealed that the Black Cats, managed by Jack Ross, have an appeal to the midfielder even though they are in League One.

Although, he did add that the financial package for the player to join the north east side is not what will be behind the decision. That's because Nixon claims Aberdeen would offer a higher salary and maybe even Hibs, who are desperate to keep him.

With clubs returning to pre-season in the coming days then it would appear McGeouch will make a decision on his future very soon.

The Verdict

The Hibs man is a quality midfielder and it's easy to see why so many clubs are interested in him, particularly as he is a free transfer.

He would add a lot to Sunderland as he boasts good technical ability and is a fine passer, qualities the Black Cats have not had over the years.

Yet, they clearly face a lot of competition but Ross will hope the club can finalise this deal as he looks to build a squad capable of winning League One.
