Football Ventures have an experienced football figure on their team, as they look to complete a takeover of Bolton Wanderers, according to respected journalist Alan Nixon.

Bolton owner Ken Anderson has been looking to sell the club for months, with the club being placed into administration last month, after he failed to complete a takeover in time.

The club released a statement on behalf of their administrators on Thursday, confirming that a preferred bidder for the club has been identified and notified of their successful offer.

The successful bid met the criteria outlined by the administrators, including proof of funds for the next two years and approval from the EFL.

The successful bidder also agreed to inject £1million into the club to fund the rebuilding of the playing squad, after the club confirmed that they only have 14 players contracted for next season, with only eight of them having started a game in the EFL.

BBC Radio Manchester then reported on Friday that the Football Ventures consortium is the preferred new owner, although this is yet to be officially announced and The Bolton News reported on Monday that they should be confirmed as the preferred bidder by administrators early this week.

Nixon has now delivered another update via Twitter, revealing that Football Ventures have an experienced football figure on their takeover team, although it is unclear as to who exactly this might be and that their first priority will be to sort out the future of manager Phil Parkinson.

The Verdict

It has been a disastrous few months for Bolton, both on and off the field, but Wanderers fans can finally start to look ahead to next season with some optimism.

There's still a long way to go, especially when it comes to sorting out a playing squad for next season, but this latest takeover update is definitely a step in the right direction.

Hopefully for Bolton the takeover will be confirmed within the next few days, although it is currently unclear as to who this experienced football figure might be or exactly what involvement he might have.
