According to Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United will look to make a quick appointment following Thomas Christiansen’s sacking, which came late last night.

An unsurprising announcement was made by Leeds’ official website last night, with the Whites confirming that they had parted company with Christiansen following a winless start to 2018.

Leeds lost 4-1 to Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon, a defeat that left the Whites seven points adrift of the top-six and facing an uphill battle to resurrect their hopes of competing in the play-offs this season.

Hay, who works closely with Leeds from the YEP, has confirmed that no names have been mentioned, but he is expecting a swift appointment from Andrea Radrizzani.

Leeds have almost a week until their next Championship fixture, with the Whites travelling to Bramall Lane on Saturday lunchtime to face Sheffield United in a Yorkshire derby.

As Hay mentions, no names have been set in stone, but it has been reported that Steve McClaren was in attendance at Elland Road on Saturday, which has led to plenty of speculation linking the former England boss to the recent vacancy.

The Verdict

It isn’t really a surprise that Leeds and Christiansen have gone their separate ways, however, a quick appointment is a must at Elland Road.

Leeds still have slight hopes of resurrecting their season, with the coming month make or break for the Whites.

Getting a permanent appointment in quickly will be key to any top-six chance, which the club’s senior figures will be more than aware of.

It is a huge week for Leeds.
