Nottingham Forest have been linked with Middlesbrough outcast Adam Clayton since his former manager Aitor Karanka was appointed at the helm at the City Ground.

Clayton was frozen out under former Boro manager Garry Monk and while he has been brought closer to the first-team picture under new boss Tony Pulis, there is still a chance he may leave the Riverside Stadium in the January transfer window.

Journalist Alan Nixon has given an update on the situation between Forest and Clayton. He tweeted that Forest have been in pursuit of the English midfielder for the last few days and that the finances of the deal are the main stumbling block.

Nixon's admission that it comes down to money may indicate that Clayton is willing to give up the promotion push to drop down the league and link up with his former manager again.

The Verdict

Clayton would be a quality signing for Forest and I must admit, I'm slightly surprised that it seems as if Clayton is considering moving down the league.

That shows the respect he has for Karanka and it would make a statement to the rest of the league if they got Clayton in. He is as good as anyone in the league in his position.
