Birmingham City's 2-0 home defeat in their crunch relegation battle against Barnsley on Saturday pushed them back into the bottom three.

The home fans were not at all impressed with what they saw and Blues boss Steve Cotterill had to be escorted off at full-time, such was the vitriol being directed towards him.

That has led some people to speculate that his future at St Andrew's is in doubt and journalist Alan Nixon has shed some light on the current goings on.

He revealed on Twitter that there had been a meeting between the powers that be at the Midlands club but that Cotterill would be in charge of the side on Saturday away against Nottingham Forest after a rallying cry was issued to try and turn fortunes around.

The Verdict

I think a lack of alternatives might be the main thing keeping Cotterill in the job right now.

The stats show that he isn't performing much better than his predecessor Harry Redknapp and he looks like a man who is running out of ideas slightly.

Another defeat to Forest may make it lights out for the former Bristol City boss, especially if the Blues board have had time to sound out a successor.
