Izzy Brown could be involved for Leeds United this Saturday against Rotherham United after completing another 45 minutes of under-23 action last night.

Leeds moved to sign Brown back in the summer despite a long-term knee injury, which has meant his last senior appearance came 12 months ago.

However, the 22-year-old has been making good strides in recent weeks, featuring for Leeds’ under-23s.

The midfielder’s latest outing came last night against Southampton, with Brown completing the second-half as Leeds won 3-2.

There was some confusion regarding Brown’s fitness, with the midfielder named in the starting line-up before he was replaced by Tyler Roberts 20 minutes before kick-off.

Phil Hay at the Yorkshire Evening Post has quashed speculation that all is not well with Brown, with the journalist insisting that he is fine and there’s a good chance he could be involved when Leeds head to Rotherham on Saturday afternoon.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side head to South Yorkshire on an indifferent run of form, having lost three of their last four Championship fixtures, including Saturday’s clash with Stoke City.

Pontus Jansson was dismissed in that fixture at the bet365 Stadium, meaning he will serve a one-match suspension at Rotherham.

The Verdict

What a boost this would be for both Brown and Leeds.

The player hasn’t featured for 12 months, so even a place on the bench will feel like real progress for him, whilst Leeds have suffered with injuries all season, so Brown’s return would feel like a big plus.

Of course, Leeds have to manage Brown carefully and respect the fact he might not be ready for first-team football. He’s been out a long time and caution needs to be taken.
