West Bromwich Albion fans have been given an update on the latest contract situation of exciting youngster Rekeem Harper.

The 19-year-old’s current deal is set to expire in the summer, but Express and Star journalist Matt Wilson says that there is still a deal on the table for him, but that there has been no movement since before Darren Moore was sacked.

Replying to a concerned fan on Twitter, Wilson said: “as far as I'm aware, there's an offer on the table. They held talks a few days before DM's sacking”

Since the turn of the year, Harper has played ten of Albion’s 12 matches, becoming a fan favourite in the process.

Caretaker boss Jimmy Shan has picked up two straight wins since the sacking of Darren Moore, beating Swansea City and Brentford to steer them back in the right direction following a heavy defeat to Leeds United and a draw with Ipswich Town.

But they still sit a sizeable seven points behind Chris Wilder’s second-placed Blades with just eight matches left of the season.

The verdict

West Brom have handled this atrociously really.

It looks like it could be a similar situation to that which caught Sunderland out with Josh Maja although this time the Baggies will not get the chance to get any cash.

Striking a deal needs to be a major priority.
