Leeds United remain in two minds over pursuing a deal to bring Abel Hernandez to Elland Road ahead of the new season.

Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post has been quizzed on whether Leeds’ pursuit of Hernandez is over, with the reliable journalist confirming that Leeds are in two minds whether to pursue what will be an expensive deal.

Another factor is that new head-coach, Marcelo Bielsa, is a huge fan of Matej Vydra, who is another forward on Leeds’ radar.

Leeds have been interested in signing Hernandez for some time now, with the striker leaving Hull City as a free agent this summer.

The 27-year-old Uruguayan had been at Hull over the last four years, impressing at the KCOM Stadium, particularly in the Championship.

Hernandez was involved in two Championship seasons, as well as two Premier League campaigns, with his form in the second-tier standing out.

Over 20 goals were scored during the 2015/16 campaign, whilst last year, in an injury-hit campaign, Hernandez returned eight goals in just 10 appearances for the Tigers, helping them avoid relegation.

Despite an interest in Hernandez, it has been reported that Leeds are closing in on a deal to sign Vydra in an £11m deal.

The Verdict

Hernandez was always going to be an expensive deal for Leeds to complete, with the striker’s wage demands not cheap.

Leeds are likely to only take one of Hernandez or Vydra on board, with both good players.

In the end, it should be Bielsa’s decision who should be bringing in this summer.
