Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to be without Barry Douglas for tomorrow’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday, with the Express and Star’s Tim Spiers confirming the defender will be absent from Nuno Espirito Santo’s travelling squad.

Douglas picked up a knock in last weekend’s goalless draw with Sunderland at Molineux, which will force him out of tomorrow’s trip to Hillsborough, where Wolves will be looking to strengthen their place in the race for automatic promotion.

So far this season Douglas has featured in 15 of Wolves’ 21 Championship fixtures on the left side of Nuno’s favoured 3-4-3 formation, with the 28-year-old chipping in with two goals and an impressive seven assists over the course of the campaign.

Douglas’ absence is likely to open the door for Ruben Vinagre, who has deputised on numerous occasions for the Scot already this season.

Vinagre will likely come into a Wolves side who are looking to maintain their four-point lead at the top of the Championship table this weekend.

Nuno’s side are unbeaten since mid-October, but saw a six-match unbeaten run ended last weekend when Sunderland surprisingly held the league leaders to a goalless draw at Molineux.

The Verdict

This is a huge blow for Nuno, as Douglas has been one of Wolves’ most impressive performers over the course of the current campaign.

Douglas’ performances have gone under the radar due to the praise Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves and Leo Bonatini have received, but there is no doubting that Wolves are weaker without the Scot in the starting XI.

However, Nuno will have full faith in Vinagre to deputise in the short-term.
