Nottingham Forest’s main target this summer remains a striker, as Aitor Karanka’s transfer plans take shape at the City Ground.

Fresh from a disappointing 2017/18 campaign, which saw Forest only finish 17th in the Sky Bet Championship, Karanka is looking to make changes to his playing squad.

According to Alan Nixon, Karanka has repeatedly stated that his main target this summer will be an experienced striker, with the journalist confirming that is where the bulk of Forest’s summer transfer budget will have to be spent.

Last season, Forest struggled in the goalscoring department, with the Reds scoring 51 goals.

Kieran Dowell finished the season as Forest’s top goalscorer, with the Everton loanee scoring 10 goals.

The likes of Daryl Murphy, Ben Brereton and Apostolos Vellios, Forest’s leading striking options, all failed to reach double figures during the 2017/18 campaign.

One man already linked to the City Ground has been Jack Marriott, with Sky Sports confirming Forest’s interest in the Peterborough United striker.

Marriott was one of the most impressive strikers outside the Championship last season, with the 23-year-old scoring 33 goals in 56 appearances for Posh.

The Verdict

To be successful in the Championship, there is no doubt that you need a striker to score a good number of goals.

Forest were desperately lacking in that department last season, which reflected in their disappointing position in the table.

This summer Forest need to add an experienced striker, who delivers the goals needed.

Marriott, on paper, looks the ideal candidate.
