According to Graeme Bailey from Football Insider, Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Adam Clayton, but will face Premier League competition in the race to sign the Middlesbrough man.

Clayton, along with teammate, Marvin Johnson, looks set to leave the Riverside Stadium before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, with Nottingham Forest one club interested in handing the former a route out of Teesside.

Tony Pulis, and his predecessor, Garry Monk, have used Clayton sparingly this season, with the midfielder featuring on just 15 occasions in the Sky Bet Championship.

Clayton’s spell at the Riverside has otherwise been a success, with the 29-year-old playing a major role in the club’s promotion winning campaign during the 2015/16 season, as well as featuring regularly last year in the top-flight.

Aitor Karanka was Clayton’s boss during that fruitful period at the Riverside, and the now Nottingham Forest boss is keen for a reunion at the City Ground with his former midfielder.

Forest, who currently sit 14th in the Championship table, are not the only club credited with an interest in Clayton at this late stage of the window, with Premier League clubs also interested in offering the midfielder a route out of the Riverside Stadium.

The Verdict

Adding Clayton to the squad at the City Ground would be a major coup for Karanka and would end the transfer window on a serious high in Nottingham.

Clayton is unlucky to find himself on the fringe at the Riverside Stadium, as he has been a fantastic servant for Boro.

At 29, Clayton still has a lot to offer in the Championship and maybe even the top-flight, which makes the interest in him unsurprising.
