It has been confirmed that Oli McBurnie is on Leeds United’s radar heading into the summer transfer window, with Paul Heckingbottom keen to link back up with the striker.

Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post, who works closely with Leeds, has confirmed that Heckingbottom is a big admirer of the striker, with McBurnie firmly on Leeds’ radar ahead of the summer.

McBurnie is currently on-loan with Barnsley across the Sky Bet Championship, with the striker impressing at Oakwell.

The 21-year-old has eight goals in just 12 starts for the Tykes, spearheading their fight against relegation in the Championship.

McBurnie will be expected to return to Swansea City, his parent-club, in the summer, but with just one-year remaining on his deal in Wales, the striker has been linked with a permanent move back to his hometown, Leeds.

Leeds’ goalscoring woes have been part of their downfall this season, with the Whites struggling without Chris Wood, the scorer of 30 goals across all competitions last season.

McBurnie will get the perfect opportunity to impress Leeds this weekend, with Barnsley travelling to Elland Road on Saturday afternoon to take on Heckingbottom’s side.

The Verdict

McBurnie is an impressive striker, particularly for his age, who has delivered a good goal return in the Championship at Barnsley.

Leeds need to get their recruitment right in the summer, and there will be plenty of optimism should McBurnie arrive at Elland Road.

The striker might well be looking to beat Leeds on Saturday, but it is the perfect chance for Leeds’ senior figures to take a closer look at the 21-year-old.
