According to journalist, Alan Nixon, @reluctantnicko, there is no chance of Liverpool’s Ryan Kent returning to Barnsley in the Sky Bet Championship this summer.

Kent excelled at Oakwell in the Championship last season, with the 20-year old featuring in 44 of Barnsley’s 46 league fixtures, scoring three goals in the process.

The midfielder has made just one senior appearance for Liverpool, during an FA Cup tie in January 2016, and will be expected to find himself out on-loan during the 2017/18 campaign.

Barnsley and Paul Heckingbottom are hopeful that Kent will return to Oakwell over the summer, ahead of the Tykes’ second season back in the Championship, but Nixon’s latest update suggests a deal with Liverpool will not be agreed.

There is other interest in Kent from around Britain, with former Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, keen to take the 20-year old north of the border to Celtic, who could potentially offer the midfielder an opportunity in the Champions League – should the Hoops qualify through the play-offs.

Barnsley’s Yorkshire and Championship rivals, Leeds United are also keen to strike a deal with the Reds for Kent’s service, as they plan for another challenge on promotion next season after falling agonisingly short of a play-off place in 2017.

Where do you think Kent will be playing his football next season? Do you think he will return to the Championship? Let us know your thoughts!
