The football season in this country remains on pause but hopes that it can return at some point in the near future will surely grow with the Bundesliga returning this weekend.

If lessons can be learned from the German top flight, perhaps we'll see the Premier League and the Championship, at least, return before too long - as long as it is safe to do so.

Indeed, they are plenty of issues to still iron out before we get to some kind of green light for the game on these shores, and promotion and relegation between the top two tiers is one such problem.

Certainly, in a potential blow to the likes of Leeds and West Brom, Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber has explained why promotion and relegation should be scrapped if the season cannot be completed naturally:

The Verdict

With Norwich at the bottom of the Premier League, you can obviously see why Webber is arguing this but, even so, it is something that is completely understandable.

To relegate sides without them playing their full season is something that could cause real legal issues - Amiens in France are highlighting that.

It's a mad situation to be in, and something needs to be sorted - though you feel any compromise is going to hurt some parties at some point, one way or another.
