Garry Monk is looking to raid his old side Leeds United for winger Pablo Hernandez, according to reports in the printed copy of the Sunday Mirror (March 18th, page 65).

The Blues halted a run of seven straight defeats with a fine 3-0 win against Hull City at the weekend, but Monk is already looking ahead to next season.

He's worked with the Spaniard at Swansea and Leeds, as has assistant Pep Clotet.

32-year old Hernandez has grabbed seven goals and seven assists in 36 outings for Leeds this season, but is out of contract at the end of the campaign and could be available on a free transfer.

Hernandez first came to English football in 2012, a £5.5m arrival at the Liberty Stadium from Spanish giants Valencia. He left in 2014, making a shock move to Qatari side Al Arabi, before joining Rayo Vallecano on loan and finally Leeds United.

Both Victor Orta and Paul Heckingbottom have spoken highly of the winger recently, indicating a desire to keep him at the club. With interest from Monk, whether he'll remain at Elland Road or not remains to be seen.

The Verdict

Much will depend on Monk's ability to keep Birmingham in the Championship.

Personally, I think he'll do it and if he does, Hernandez would be a huge signing for them.

Would he leave Leeds? I'd say almost certainly, Elland Road has turned into a circus over the last few months and he would be better off out of it.
