Leeds’ attempt to sign with Leo Stulac could prove to be an astute piece of business.

The Venezia midfielder had a strong season with a return of six goals and four assists in his 20 appearances. However, he is now out of contract as he seeks to take on new challenges. Leeds would benefit greatly from signing him.

Such a move would fit in well with a Leeds side that likes to hit sides on the counter. Stulac would be a solid upgrade on Eunan O’Kane. O’Kane offered little going forward, with just 0.5 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game, and often failed to impose himself on the game. On the other hand, Stulac could offer Leeds an extra edge in their attack. With his desire to carry the ball, the 23-year old has the potential to turn pressurised defensive situations into attacking opportunities that Leeds’ faster players can exploit.

His combined defensive and attacking capabilities sit well with Heckingbottom’s favoured 4-2-3-1. Being able to fill either the CDM or CAM roles, his involvement in the side would allow for more flexibility during matches and create a side more able to adapt to the in-game situation.

To have a player who offers so much available on a free transfer would be a real boon to the side. Monk would be wise to convince the Slovenian to come to Elland Road. He could send Leeds back into the play-off race.
